Biography: Rev. Solomon C. Malan, D.D. [1812-1894], Vicar of Broadwindsor, Prebendary of Sarum, well known orientalist which fluency in language was legendary: English, French, Sanskrit, Arabic, Hebrew, German, Spanish, Italian, Latin, Greek, Tibetan, Chinese, Georgian, Armenian, Coptic.
1833 – England, Student at St Edmund Hall, Oxford.
1838 – India, Student at Bishop College, Calcutta; Secretary at the Royal Asiatic Society, Bengal Branch.
1845-1886 – England, curacy of Broadwindsor, Dorset.
